Celebrate BC’s Parks 100 Years

Provincial funding will be aiding British Columbia’s Provincial Parks.  Recently, it was announced that $120,000 in funding will be provided for arts and cultural events in BC Provincial Parts for BC Parks Centennial in 2011.

March 1 marks the date of the development 100 years ago, of the first Provincial Park in British Columbia.  Provincial Parks across BC will be organizing events and celebrations dedicated to the lifestyle.  These events will be taking place from March to December 2011.

‘Arts in the Parks’ funding is coming from two sources: the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts who are providing $60,000 each.  According to a press release, individual grants of $5,000 can be awarded to artists, groups or performers that promote the park’s ability to ‘shape the arts, culture and character of BC’s communities’.

These $5,000 grants will cover 75% of the total cost of Arts in the Parks.

British Columbian artists along with any community that feels they have something to contribute to the Provincial Parks, have the ability to apply for the grant money at AssemblyBCArtsCouncils.ca.

Those who would like to learn more about the Provincial Parks in their area or around British Columbia are encouraged to visit Env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/BCParks100.  British Columbians are also encouraged to visit the Provincial Parks in their area as well as those around the province to celebrate British Columbian talent as well as 100 years of success.
