The Heritage Tourism Alliance of BC is a marketing initiative coordinated by the BC Museums Association with a steering committee of heritage partners that promotes experiences featuring British Columbia’s history and heritage. Locals and visitors are invited to participate in a photo contest, which consists of capturing the heritage of a BC town in a photo and submitting it on Time Travel BC Facebook page. The contest will be running from February 9 to 24 to coincide with the new BC Family Day holiday Feb 11, and Heritage Week Feb 18 to 24. Two iPad Minis are available as prizes for the best ‘family photos’ showing BC people in their favourite local places. Just like the Time Travel BC website, the contest aims to link British Columbians with their heritage, and to show how heritage continues to build treasured family memories even today. The campaign features six major heritage sites operated by the Province. The sites are managed by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. Minister Steve Thomson said, “BC’s heritage sites and historic places contribute significantly to our unique identity as British Columbians. This photo contest is an engaging way for families to experience and help showcase BC’s rich history.” But the contest is by no means limited to famous locations. Any local place where the story of BC has been lived, any place that lets people have a sense of a past moment in time, can serve as entrants’ photo-shoot set. Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Bill Bennett noted, “Arts, culture and heritage provide basic building blocks for our communities. I’m pleased to see the HTA launch this contest to help all British Columbians celebrate the story of our province.” The HTA hopes to encourage contest entrants to ‘share’ their photos on the Facebook network, helping to spread the word about the province’s wealth of heritage and culture. Details on the contest can be found online. |
