It’s a Mobile World

Mobile smartphones and tablets have become pervasive in our society and the App economy is a dominant force. And the good news is, through mobile websites and apps, we can connect with our visitors as never before.

We launched KootenayRockies.mobi – the official travel website for the Kootenay Rockies region in May 2007. The site is specifically formatted for handheld devices. Visits to the site has gown consistently over the years and currently averages over 1,000 unique visits per month. The site includes over 1,200 product listings – everything there is to see and do in the Kootenay Rockies region.

The award-winning KootenayRockies.mobi (Silver Award from Canadian e-tourism awards for Best Innovation in 2007) is also sometimes described as a Web App. It is a site which can be accessed from any web-capable mobile device.

Further mobile development and enhancement planning led to the launch of the KOOTENAYapp in November 2011. The KOOTENAYapp is defined as a Native App which is one that is designed to run on a device’s operating system. Therefore, for iPhone, iPad, iPod, Android and Blackberry users, the KOOTENAYapp is available to download for FREE. The KOOTENAYapp total downloads is at 6,500 (as of June 1, 2013) and is seeing a consistent 200+ downloads per month.

Version 3 of the KOOTENAYapp includes some great features specific for tablets and ipads: Interactive Mapping for the regional Circle Route Driving Tours. Each Driving Tour is colour coded on the map and all tourism product along the way is marked with a push pin. Travellers enjoy easy navigation between the Itinerary, Map and Product Listings.
