Kimberley Conference Centre Opens November 25

“At 24,000-square-feet, the Kimberley Conference and Athletic Training Centre is the largest facility of its kind in Eastern BC and represents the region’s strong vision for the future,” says Tim Greiner, the Centre’s General Manager. “It is a remarkable state-of-the-art facility built with sustainable practices in mind and designed for full accessibility, by people with all abilities, throughout.”

“The Kimberley Conference and Athletic Training Centre marks the long-term realization of an entire community’s effort,” says Mayor Jim Ogilvie. “So many people and organizations held a crucial role in determining the success of this building, and everyone involved deserves huge congratulations. It has been an amazing collaborative process”. All levels of government and several local companies worked together and supported the project with money, materials, and labour – building on budget and on time. The project focused on using 95% of local labour and materials from BC’s workforce. “They’ve contributed to a more sustainable and accessible facility that profiles Kimberley’s appreciation of the environment and the people who live, work and visit here. They have contributed to our future,” said Ogilvie.

The unveiling was attended by a number of high-profile community members, among them included MLA Kootenay East Bill Bennett, Mayor Jim Ogilvie, Paralympic silver medalist Josh Dueck, Member of the Order of Canada Jerry Johnston who is also a recipient of the International Paralympic Order recognizing his work in adaptive skiing, and a video message from Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
